This week Jacob goes old school with Tom & Terry from The Amazing Race Season 10!
Tom Rock and Terry Cosentino were a team on the tenth season of The Amazing Race, they competed in four legs of the race and were eliminated in 8th place. We talked on the phone about episode six of Survivor: Millennials vs. Generation X.
Jacob Derwin: What do you guys think of the season so far?
Terry Cosentino: Well, speaking for both of us: it’s weird the way that they did this season, I’m glad they keep breaking up the groups sooner than later. And I like the concept. They’ve kind of done this before, young versus old. It’s not like it’s a really, really new concept, but it’s good.
JD: Let’s get into the episode. At the top of the episode, we’re back at Vanua beach after the CeCe vote. What did you think about the last tribal?
TC: I was surprised that David did this (flipped) so early because I thought he needed CeCe, but then all I could think was that it paid off because he gained Chris’ trust. I think he needed Chris in his corner for longevity in case they do break down the tribes again.
JD: We also had another idol find on the Ikabula tribe with Jay and Will.
TC: Right. My favorite part with that was when Michaela came by. They couldn’t lie about having the idol. Their goose was cooked. Not only was their goose cooked, it was filleted because now she knows about it.
JD: That was a great moment. “Whatcha got there?”
TC: Perfect timing.
JD: Now we’ll get into the reward challenge – the blindfold challenge.
Tom Rock: I didn’t think Michelle was being very helpful towards David at all. I just felt like she was not helping him at all.
JD: Yeah, it’s a tough challenge.
TC: And thank god that Hannah did not do it. It’s a good thing she wasn’t in the challenge.
JD: For sure. During the challenge, it looked like Figgy and Takali were going to win it, but at the puzzle, it all fell apart.
TC: Yeah and it showed off that one of the tribes is known for its strength, not so much the brain part of it. And the tribe that won was the brainiacs mostly. They were more patient. Maybe because they were the older ones, they were more patient.
JD: I suppose! We get back to camp after the challenge and our “power couple” is discussing how they think they need to tell Ken and Jessica about their relationship.
TC: Tom, didn’t you tell me it was like a stupid show romance, that it was so public.
TR: Yeah for sure.
TC: They were outing themselves. It was so stupid because everyone already saw it.
TR: Yeah, and then I thought they were going to be a target.
TC: Well they already were, one of them got voted out! Which was great.
TR: Yeah, I thought it was stupid.
TC: Yeah, the showmances never work.
JD: Then we have the immunity challenge after that scene with the table maze. Even though Hannah was not doing too great earlier, she and Michaela managed to win it for Ikabula.
TC: Yeah, that was great, great, great especially for Hannah. Since she showed her weakness, she was in a medical semi-emergency, she needed this in her pocket. She showed that she’s a keeper, you need this Brainiac.
JD: Michaela just had to yell at her a little bit.
TC: But you know what? I don’t think that’s gonna work to Michaela’s advantage. I think later on… there’s gotta be a reason why the producers showed that to everybody. If not to show that she’s beginning to be a hothead. Other things are not gonna bounce off of her so easily. You can’t explode so quickly. You gotta eat your attitude. Do not display that you’re pissed off by anybody.
TR: Ken’s been under the radar like that.
TC: Right. I don’t think Michaela’s gonna last; I think it’s gonna become too much of a habit.
JD: Takali loses immunity – that’s Figgy, Taylor, Adam, Ken and Jessica – so, pre-tribal council, what were you guys thinking?
TC: I thought it was a toss-up. I was hoping that they were gonna send home Figgy, which is what they did. I didn’t think it was gonna happen. I really thought Adam didn’t have enough in him to flip. I thought he was gonna be Figgy and Taylor’s puppy dog and bend however they bent. So I was glad that Adam flipped. I was surprised, and I do believe that Ken will look out for Adam and so will Jessica. I think Taylor is too impressed with himself and I think he’s not gonna go as far as he thinks he is.
JD: He’s, uh, well, last week when I spoke with Audrey Middleton from Big Brother, she described Taylor as a puppy dog who needed to be trained.
TC: He is kinda like a puppy dog, and the other part is that he’s a puppy dog that only knows how to paddle water. He doesn’t know how to boil water, he doesn’t know how to make a fire, he doesn’t know how to do any of that crap. He’s relaxing on the beach.
TR: Yeah I don’t know how he’s survived.
JD: Yeah, I don’t think he’s the brightest bulb, exactly.
TR & TC: No.
JD: So, we get to tribal, and the whole discussion is about marriage and love and Probst says he could marry the two on the spot if they wanted.
TC: Yeah, that was great. I think he was trying to bring out how stupid they are to America, but it didn’t work.
JD: So, Figgy does end up going home, as you hoped. How do you think Figgy did this season?
TC: I didn’t think she was a good player at all, I really don’t. I think she got the impression that this is summer sleepaway camp. It’s gonna be good times with everybody, and we’re gonna have so much fun and look I found somebody to go out and hang with. I didn’t think she was a good player at all.
JD: It was weird how a lot of her pre-season interviews and such were all about her finding love and a husband – at least that’s what came out in her edit.
TR: Yeah, she seemed like she had other motives, for sure. That’s not gonna last.
JD: And in the preview for next week we see Adam talking to Taylor apologizing and saying “I lied to you and I screwed you,” and Taylor’s response in a confessional is, “I will destroy you.” How do you think this is gonna play out on the tribe?
