Australian Survivor Host Rumors

Late last year, Channel Ten announced the return of Australian Survivor and even though filming is still months away, there are already rumors about who will host the most recent version of the popular reality adventure game.

When news first broke in November 2015, the early favorite to become the Aussie version of Jeff Probst was reality star, Steve Willis. Nicknamed “The Commando”, Willis was one of the four trainers on the Australian version of The Biggest Loser.

But the latest rumor according to news.com.au is that television veterinarian and host Dr. Chris Brown could be in the running to take the reigns of the island based strategy show. Brown is already a familiar presence on other Channel Ten show’s such as Bondi Vet, The Living Room and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!  – which he is co-hosts with Julia Morris.

When asked to comment on the Survivor rumors, Brown joked: “I don’t know if the wardrobe department could handle my sky blue shirt demand. But it’s true; I do already have the cargos.”

He also spoke highly of Jeff Probst, the long-standing host of the US version: “Probsty’s a tough act to follow. He committed to the show so much he (dated) someone from it.”

Probst himself has previously gone on record to lend his support to another Australian television host and comedian. Speaking to ET Canada in a pre-season interview before the 31st season, Probst stated that if he could name one person to take over as host, it would be Rove McManus.

McManus is a self-admitted Survivor fan and has even spent time on location for rehearsals of the US series to test-run challenges and offer Probst advice. McManus recently moved back to Australia with his family after having lived in the US for many years.

Only time will tell if these rumors are true or not. The new Australian Survivor season, which will film in Pulau Tiga, is scheduled to air sometime towards the end of the year.

  1. Of those options, Rove I think will be the best. He’s got a lot of interviewing experience which will make him a good tribal council compete, I think.

That Commmando jerk is the other end of the scale – that casting would concern
Me about the prospective quality of the show.
