Next Time On Survivor – Episode 5

Steph Lauw makes her predictions for the next episode!

CBS

Welcome to Season 51’s Next Time On Survivor weekly feature on the Inside Survivor site! If you’re new around here, I’m Steph from sunny, tropical, humid Singapore. This is a tiny space where I give my best attempts at understanding preview trailers and make my predictions for the show’s next episodes.

The previews give us a look at the three new tribes formed after last episode’s swap. For the Savu tribe, there’s just a small scene in the NTOS trailer where Jelly comments, “Devin is not good for my game.” This is an interesting statement, since she’s in a 3-person alliance with Devin and Ori on what is now a small 4-person tribe.

While Jelly may have grievances with Devin, I don’t think they’re enough to topple this majority alliance we’ve been reminded of every episode since the premiere. For me, this statement more likely injects some suspense or possible excitement to make a Savu vote less predictable. It’s highly likely Alexis will still get voted out.

In a sneak peek scene, we see some new tribe dynamics at Dina camp. Lewis starts by saying the tribe is a slow burn that doesn’t like talking strategy. He then moves to some mild rants about Kilby and Eric’s non-stop talking, making pop culture references that Lewis doesn’t understand. From the setup and background music, it feels more like comic relief, but I can see it leading to Lewis broaching the topic of splitting the pair up and voting one of them out at the next Dina tribal council. Since four former Savu members—Linnea, Cristian, Sharonda, and Eric—on this new Dina tribe all voted together for Ana in Episode 2, I would be surprised if they end up voting Eric out over Kilby.

Finally, on the Toka tribe, it’s a tense swap for Kristin, as she’s the only player from Savu, while the rest are from the previous Toka tribe—Mike, Thien An, Maggie, Brady, and Carter, who mutinied to Toka an episode earlier. In another sneak peek scene, Maggie and Brady discuss staying Toka strong. However, Brady is concerned that Maggie is too frantic and erratic, and not pleased that she has the extra vote advantage. I feel like this scene is more about sharing Brady’s thoughts and emotions than truly setting up a Maggie vote. After all, at the previous vote, Brady (and Mike) were blindsided by Thien An, Carter, and Maggie, who now have the majority advantage in the new Toka, especially if they pull in Kristin.

However, these predictions will change once the players learn the twists. In the NTOS trailer, Jeff announces at the challenge that two of the three tribes will be going to tribal council. They also introduce a new “never-before-seen advantage” called the blood ring. My guess is it’ll be used as collateral: if one person leaves the game, the other has to leave too. We also see Maggie arrive alone by boat at another camp. If this happens after the immunity challenge, maybe she’s on the winning tribe and gets to go to the other camp to cause chaos, or even join tribal council with both tribes?
