Next Time On Survivor – Episode 2

Steph Lauw makes her predictions for the next episode!

CBS

Welcome to Season 50’s Next Time On Survivor weekly feature on the Inside Survivor site! If you’re new around here, I’m Steph from sunny, tropical, humid Singapore. This is a tiny space where I give my best attempts at understanding preview trailers and make my predictions for the show’s next episodes.

Episode 2’s trailer begins by sending us back to 2011, with Coach calling Ozzy out at a challenge. He asserts, “This is the same old Coach that you’ve always seen,” which I find is likely what the episode description is referring to when stating “one castaway’s attempt to publicly set the record straight”. His firm declaration is probably in response to what Mike White relayed to him in the episode premiere, that Coach lied to the Kalo tribe about how he won the reward challenge.

This shot in the trailer is quickly juxtaposed with one of Ozzy looking quite spent, but collecting himself and not betraying a rash reaction. For now, Coach and Ozzy are insulated by other players on their respective tribes, so I don’t believe that this clash will amount to immediate voting decisions. Still, I’m sure it’ll be a recurring thought impacting Coach’s gameplay.

Next, the episode description states that players are “forced to go back to the drawing board and reassess their alliances.” While this could definitely apply to any tribe, I think it’s likely referring to Vatu, after Kyle’s untimely medical evacuation in the last episode. Before he left the game, an early alliance of Kyle, Genevieve, Stephenie, and Colby emerged. When he was evacuated from Vatu camp, a confessional by Genevieve stood out to me, as she commented about this alliance, implying that she’d have to adapt.

Genevieve seems to have found herself in a developing rivalry with Aubry, though it currently seems more of a one-sided beef as Aubry revealed how she’s unable to trust Genevieve. While the scene certainly is priming us for an upcoming competition, I believe that both players are savvy enough to let other bigger personalities on their tribe—Rizo and Q come to mind—take the early heat if their tribe goes to tribal council.

Lastly, there’s a mention of a “difference in work ethic” in episode 2’s description. I immediately gravitated towards an old school versus new school divide, something that’s ever-present in these returnee player seasons spanning the entire evolution of the game. To me, the most prominent set-up of this in the premiere was on Kalo, where we saw Tiffany, Dee, and Kamilla grouping together as three new era players, throwing Chrissy’s name out. Meanwhile, Chrissy, Coach, and Mike connected and considered targeting Dee.

If I were to make a prediction on who will be voted out next, I’ll bet on Savannah—she’s a threat as the latest winner and a complete unknown to the rest of the players who have not seen her gameplay. Additionally, what really cemented this prediction was the Cila tribe’s awkward pregnant pause when Savannah revealed she won Survivor 49. I don’t think it’s looking too good for her, despite her secret vote block advantage.

  1. So far Coach and Ozzie are playing the typical game they have played in the past. Coach of course No honor will lie cheat and steal his way to the win. Ozzie has got to get down and dirty when it comes to playing against Coach.
