Survivor South Africa Season 8 Power Rankings (Round 1)

For the first time ever here on Inside Survivor, we will be bringing you Survivor South Africa Power Rankings. As the battle to outplay and outwit goes down on the Wild Coast of South Africa, another showdown will be taking place right here between two Survivor veterans.

Fighting it out for Power Rankings supremacy are two past Survivor SA castaways, both from Island of Secrets, Jacques Burger and Meryl Szolkeiwicz. Meryl finished in 13th place on Survivor SA, while Jacques made it to 7th place. But who will come out on top in the Power Rankings? Let battle commence!

RULES

We use the Gordon Holmes format of Power Rankings. Each week the two power rankers create separate rankings based on least likely to most likely to be eliminated. The ranking of the player who is voted out of the next episode will determine the number of points the rankers will earn. For example, if the person you ranked in 1st place is eliminated in the next episode, you will recieve 1 point. If the person you ranked in 20th place is eliminated, you will receive 20 points. At the end of the season, the person with the most points will be named the Power Rankings Champion.

1
Marisha
If Zamba loses again, there's no way they are sending home the female version of He-Man. A female challenge beast in the core alliance. What more do you want from your first pick in round 1?
1
Kiran
Kiran is playing a slow and steady game. He is very likable and I think that information will come to him and I think he has the skill to know when to use it.
2
Renier
Engineered (get it?) the Jason blindside. Getting rid of an unpredictable ally ensures his alliance has an obvious enemy to go after if they lose again. Can he potentially run out of runway? Absolutely! Will it happen in episode two? Probably not.
2
Marisha
Marisha is in a core group alliance and she is also in a bigger alliance. She has a nurturing mother-hen quality about her, and she is very enduring. The fact that she is one of the strongest people on the island doesn’t hurt either.
3
Francois
Chappies rolling into his shelter with the spoils of war held aloft, as his cheering tribemates surround and congratulate him, pretty much sums up his position right now.
3
Renier
Renier is extremely calculating. The plan he successfully put into action gave us as viewers an outstanding blindside that I still have trouble believing. He is in the majority alliance and has lots of influence.
4
Amy
The person I had pegged as the first boot comes in at number four! She's got the cool, calm and collected vibes, compounded with the ability to adapt to a new voting plan with ease. If she can keep her core group and trim the fat on her alliance, I can see her as the linchpin in a dominating alliance that will make a deep run.
4
Nicole
Nicole, like Marisha, is in a core three and a majority alliance. She seems charismatic and good to have around. I think she will go quite deep in the game.
5
Nicole
Another castaway I thought was dealt a tricky starting hand, yet she excelled. If she keeps with her core group and let the Reniers and Anelas of the world think they are calling the shots, her name won't be written down for a long time
5
Anesu
Anesu is one of my winner-picks. Extremely likable with an interesting back story. I just hope that all this alliance-making doesn’t bite her in the butt in the coming episodes.
6
Anela
Mister Smash had a great pilot. I'm slightly concerned that he might become a passenger for one round too many and get knocked out. If he can grip the steering wheel occasionally, he can take destiny into his own hands and set a course to the final tribal council.
6
Amy
Amy is probably the most strategic out of the three ladies. She understands the game and is well-positioned for the next episode.
7
Carla
Carla is a dark horse to win this season. Her confessionals and read on the game were on point. If she can keep the mental strength up and stay one step ahead of the rest for the first few episodes, she's sitting pretty to tap into her social game once the first swap/merge comes around.
7
Francois
Chappies is the self-nominated leader of the tribe. He is able to balance his strategy with light-hearted moments which shows self-awareness. Whether he can keep this equilibrium of power and play, only time will tell.
8
Wardah
Anything out there you can find in common with a stranger is pure gold. Her yogi connection with Anesu will prove invaluable. If they both survive the early game, I can see them being an unsuspecting duo that can gather momentum and break open the game later on
8
Anela
Anela was able to shift strategies and burn an alliance which shows that he is adaptable. He has the trust of some key players.
9
Kiran
I'm struggling to get a 3D picture of Kiran's game plan right now. I believe his tribemates also don't see it just yet. This can be great to keep his threat level down, I just hope he loads up his weaponry and doesn't get caught in a gunfight with no ammunition.
9
Wardah
Another one of my favourites, seems like a patient and calculating person and like she has the ability to read people well. I am very excited about the yogis alliance and hoping it will go far in the game.
10
Anesu
Anesu's game is at a crossroads. Her confessional of having an alliance with everybody is telling for what's to come. Either the whole tribe picks up that she's everybody's number two and she gets voted out the next day. Or she becomes the nexus of decision making that is coordinating the upcoming votes - I hope for her it's the latter.
10
Paul
Paul seems kind and likable. I place him in the middle and I think he will be able to play the middle really well.
11
Mike
Mike appears restless. Like someone bored a party who wants to leave early to go to a more exciting venue. As a viewer, I can't wait for him to mix up the game! As a player, I hope he keeps it under wraps for a couple of more rounds.
11
Mike
Like Paul, I place Mike in the middle. I haven’t seen too much from either of them to form a more detailed summary.
12
Noleen
Pinty made perhaps the best move of the episode - aligning with Chappies. If honesty is going to be your game, then make sure your allies know this. Chappies also mentioned he liked this about her. So, aligning with the guy that's going nowhere will ensure she doesn't go anywhere. The true test will come if Vuna loses and Chappies' commitment to keep her is put to the test.
12
Santoni
Santoni! One of my favourites. She is undoubtedly impressionable and obviously not physically strong. It also seems like she can keep things light, but real. Sometimes that is what you need in a survival situation.
13
Dino
How many times will the "That's the last time I tried to be sneaky guys" play work? Dino is here to show us. A crowd favourite coming in, he lost a ton of social capital in the pilot. He did however give the best confessional of the night with his "White boy dancing in a club" analogy. I can see him getting the "Aubry Bracco hero's journey" edit from here. Let's hope he takes on the puzzle in the next challenge and ensure they don't go to tribal for a while.
13
Carla
Carla seems very sweet and likable. Not threatening, friendly and helpful around camp. Once again, I haven’t seen enough of her to form a fuller opinion.
14
Paul
His narrative was intertwined with Dino's. Receiving help from Dino in the reward challenge and hearing his pleas at the immunity challenge was a big focus point this episode. Paul might have a potential ally in Dino if they swap, but he doesn't appear to have a strong core just yet.
14
Tyson
A strong male character and an alpha. There seems to be many alphas around and I am concerned that he won’t be able to take a back seat when a heated moment arises.
15
Tyson
Tyson's confessional about "Rather dying than be seen as weak" was very ominous. The win-at-all cost outlook in Survivor is never a good one. Let's hope he can form the connections to carry him through the spurts of losses that will inevitably come in the game.
15
Thoriso
Thoriso is a smart lady, a realist! She is perceived as the weakest and not particularly playing the social field... unfortunately that’s where most of the game takes place. I love her confessionals tbh and would love to see her go deeper into the game.
16
Qiean
My winner pick for this season's journey on Survivor got off to a rough start. The idol searching shenanigans with her no two, a player that everybody experiences as a greasy player, does not bode well for her game. Qiean's map to the end from here is clear: Survive the next two episodes by any means necessary and get to the swap. Here she should team up with the loose change players from Vuna, forming a tight-knit group that can take on the two core alliances come merge.
16
Dino
Dino is a student of the game and he has most of the fandom backing him, but everything you think you know changes once you set foot on the island. He made too many mistakes in the premiere and I’m concerned that Shaun will push for Dino’s head if they are to go to tribal.
17
Shaun
Loved Shaun in the pilot! He’s a scrappy player that looks like he's talked himself out some kak spots before. If he can keep running that mouth of his and create enough chaos and diversion, he might just weasel himself out of this position that he is in now. I can't wait for the moment he finds an idol/clue and takes on a seven-person alliance with it.
17
Shaun
Shaun... master manipulator and someone who knows how to look out for only himself. He voted for Qiean in the end which means he is willing to burn bridges quickly. He came in strong at tribal and based on the previews, might be able to stay for one more vote.
18
Thoriso
Thoriso gave us a clear and poised explanation of why she is on the bottom of her tribe. Although it takes incredible self-awareness to identify this, I don't see what she can do to avoid being the target at the next tribal should they lose again. That being said, the Vuna tribe might just throw her a permanent lifeline and send her back to Immunity Island again and again ad infimum. If this does happen, she might have a lot of friends when she reaches the first swap.
18
Noleen
I am quite intrigued by her and she seems like she has many stories to tell. I’m concerned for her in the game, because she has paired up with one of the strongest players currently and they could be seen as a “power couple.” In situations like this, the castaways usually get rid of the woman to ‘keep the tribe strong.’
19
Santoni
Nobody is rooting harder for Santoni than me. NOBODY!! Yet on the 'Next time on' she was sitting out at the challenge, and we got no info on any alliance or group that she's a part of. She's just too obvious a vote if her tribe loses. However, the picture might be painted that she's an outsider in her tribe. If Zamba picks up on that, they can return the favour and try to weaken the opposing tribe by sending an outsider such as Santoni to Immunity Island. Let's make a prayer circle and will it into existence!
19
Qiean
The bright light on the Zamba tribe. I was gutted that it was between Jason and her for the first boot. I was not ready to lose either of them. I’m concerned that she made an alliance with probably the slimiest player on the island. I’m not sure that she can find her way out of that, unless the target is painted bigger on the other players, like Dino and Thoriso.
