Which moments made an impact in the double episode?

Welcome to Give Me Five! Each week, Brent Sullivan will look at the top five impactful moments from the latest episode that could influence the rest of the season.

Even in a double elimination episode where you expect at least one of the hours to be dull and predictable, this season still delivered. The Alec vote was 9-1, but it was still compelling up to the end and that immunity challenge… that was definitely one for the record books. We had two hours of Survivor this week, so there is plenty to talk about that doesn’t include Alec or Carl. As we lose one from each of the original tribes and the numbers stay even, there are still a handful on contenders left. There were also plenty of honorable mentions for this week, like sitting out for nachos and Mike showing off his acting skills, but let’s find out what were the top moments from this week that could be impactful:

1. Another David advantage. Once again, the original David tribe was on the top of their game. We saw them wake up early before any of the Goliaths and to go out and look for the hidden idol. This time it was Nick and Davie looking, and Nick found a clue. The clue told him to go to the other side of the island in the middle of the night. So, that night, with Davie on the lookout, Nick successfully found another idol for the David team… although at this point, it is most likely just for him. Other than Dan’s two idols that he found early in the season, every advantage and hidden idol has been controlled by one of the Davids. This is huge for Nick since Christian has the only other one that is in the game right now, and they didn’t vote together at the end of the second hour. The other point to make here is that Christian told everyone about his idol, but only Davie knows about Nick’s. So, in a way, Nick’s idol has a little bit more power. With only eight players left this season and two idols still in play, there is plenty of time for some idol-fire at tribal council.

2. Christian wants threats around. I am a little torn on this one. Christian mentioned that his game would be better off if he kept other people around that were also big targets, but then helped vote off both Alec who was a physical threat and Carl who he thought could be a personal threat down the road. Even though I think he made the right move in both of those scenarios, at the same time, he is also putting himself closer to the top of easy vote-offs. The more threats that are gone, the easier it will be for everyone left to want to vote him off. So, as I said, I am torn as to if these moves will help Christian or not. Either way, every decision he makes is coming from a place of strategy and will impact the other moves that he makes down the line.

3. Alison is finally playing Survivor. We have seen Alison week after week making cross-tribal alliances, deals and promises, and every week she holds tight to her original Goliath tribe. Finally (now that her back is against the wall) she is making true and working with some of the David tribe. She and Gabby have slowly become close allies ever since their days together at Tiva. So much so that Carl and his group didn’t even want to include Gabby in the plan to vote out Alison. After all of the dust settled from these two hours, Christian and Gabby decided to stick with Alison and vote off Carl, so for the first time in a while, things went right for Alison, and she may have a pretty good three-way alliance with Christian and Gabby, at least for the short term. No matter how it plays out for her, it was good to see Alison finally start making some bolder moves and I am curious to see the immediate impact next episode.

4. Letters from home. This is a tough one, and I almost didn’t put it in here since Alec ended up going home anyway. However, the rest of the castaways that got to read their letters from home were Alison, Mike, Christian, and Gabby. Even though Alec wasn’t long for the game at that point, I don’t think that we can underestimate the power of things like reading a letter from home after 28 days. I am sure that other than food, some connection from home has to have some boost for the remaining players. The four of them ended up voting together later as well. I am not saying that they bonded over their letters and formed an alliance, but you never know what sort of life those four may have to get to the end of the game, especially if you top that with an upcoming family visit.

5. Angelina continues to play for votes. This cast has been great, and I really do think that any of the eight remaining players have a chance at winning. It all depends on who is at the end and who is on the jury at that point. However, out of all of them, I think that Angelina may have the hardest time. She might have helped her chance a little bit this week by not only being the voice behind a possible trade for rice with Jeff but also by being the one that accepted Jeff’s counteroffer of having someone sit out the immunity challenge. I still think that she has a rough road ahead and moves like this don’t always seem to go over well with the jury, but she is definitely trying, and we will see how well this works out for her in the next few weeks.

There you go. What moments from this week’s double episode do you think made an impact?

  1. I didn’t think Angelinas offer made much difference to the people that were in the game yes they are happy to have food but she still got negative comments when making it

  2. Ah yes, before the negotiation he said she was “right in a way, but still aggravating.” But then after the negotiation, where she got the rice without having to give up any camp stuff, she got loads of praise from her tribemates.
