Australian Survivor Season 3 Power Rankings (Round 1)

Former castaways Sarah Tilleke, Luke Toki and Tess O’Halloran face off!

While the battle between Champions and Contenders is playing out on the islands of Fiji, here on Inside Survivor, an even bigger showdown is set to take place. That’s right, Aussie Power Rankings are back, and this time we’re upping the intensity, as THREE Australian Survivor season two stand-outs compete for the Inside Survivor Power Rankings crown, previously won by Flick Egginton.

Welcome to the battlefield, Sarah Tilleke, Luke Toki, and Tess O’Halloran. Three true Aussie all-stars who played very different games. Sarah was a smart, social player, using her relationships to flutter between alliances and gather vital information. Luke, the self-proclaimed “King of the Jungle,” was an unpredictable wildcard, his goofy persona and schoolboy charm masking a shrewd strategic game. Tess was a determined underdog, who consistently fought her way out of a tough position and flipped the game on its head.

All three made it to the merge, and at one point found themselves working together as members of the Champagne Alliance, before Luke and Sarah blindsided Tess at the final nine. Luke would then vote with the majority to take out Sarah at the next Tribal Council before he himself was voted out in the very next episode.

Now, the former castaways return to do battle once again. Who will come out on top? Will Tess get revenge on the allies who spurned her? Will Sarah beat out her old Asaga ally? Or will Luke soon call himself the King of Power Rankings? It’s gonna be a ripper!

RULES

We use the Gordon Holmes format of Power Rankings. Each week the three power rankers create separate rankings based on least likely to most likely to be eliminated. The ranking of the player who is voted out of the next episode will determine the number of points the rankers will earn. For example, if the person you ranked in 1st place is eliminated in the next episode, you will recieve 1 point. If the person you ranked in 20th place is eliminated, you will receive 20 points. At the end of the season, the person with the most points will be named the Australian Survivor Power Rankings Champion.

As Australian Survivor airs multiple episodes per week, the rankings will count for each episode aired that particular week.

Mat
I’m so excited by this player, he seems to really understand the nature of Survivor. Excellent social game, strong likability and seems to function somewhat as the beating heart of his tribe, which in a tribe that values team unity, is very powerful. Additionally being a physical asset to his tribe no one is voting him off any time soon but will certainly have to navigate the inevitable threat status as he approaches merge. Fingers crossed for this one!
1
Fenella
Fenella is spending quality time with the strong players, she’s got an infectious laugh and knows how to hold her tongue.
1
Mat
Mat falls into a nice safe demographic on the Chumps - oops, I mean Champs, tribe. I see him getting along with all the athletes but also having genuine respect for the rare non-Olympian he may meet out in the wild. Plus, one of my favourite moments of the season already was him telling Damien that his bottom is really nice while they were out swimming.
2
Moana
As we’ve seen already, this chick has huge sway in the group. She has versatile alliance options in a tribe that is operating on a not-yet-set-in-stone alliance basis. Therefore, she can go anywhere moving forward without burning bridges. People clearly trust her, so she’ll have her eyes and ears open to all the information, giving her the ability to make the best/most informed decisions for her own positioning in the game.
2
Monika
Not as dumb as she makes out to be... noticed she was very observant when talking strategy with Russell. Expect she will snake her way to the end game.
2
Moana
I honestly think the victory over Russel was sheer luck – did they understand how idols work? If so, this was a very poorly executed split vote (says the girl taken out by a very poorly executed split vote). But Moana is clearly gutsy and I feel like she knows about self-preservation - plus her advice to not ‘play your game so loud’ is cluey. And I just love her deadpan confessionals.
3
Benji
Over on the Contenders tribe, Benji seems to be quietly laying the groundwork to set himself up for a strong and protected position in the game. He has subtle but good relationships with everyone it seems. Despite being identified as being aligned with the boys club he is not showcasing an impenetrable allegiance to them and cleverly not acting as the mouthpiece for the alliance, unlike Zach. I see Benji having a lot of subtle pull in his game and I’m interested to see where he goes with it.
3
Benji
A very social, savvy player. Hasn’t come out of the gates too fast, not like the other guys in the boy band – will he make bold moves to stay in the game?
3
Lydia
I’m calling it now, 3rd place finisher.
4
Fenella
Fenella has a persona that you can’t help but want to trust, she’s likeable and would have a calming influence on any alliance. But I feel this chick knows the game and is setting herself up for a strong position socially.
4
Mat
The bloke's an all-rounder. He should go far. Though, I would be wearing his hat to Tribal if he was on my season, hahahah!
4
Tegan
I’m so here for a Tegan/Heath alliance. She can literally use Heath as a human shield. It’s hard to imagine any of the possible factions carrying out a plan without Tegan on board - she’s central to the boys’ plans, but also likely to be approached if the girls want to try something. My only fear is that she might start spouting Sam Webb-isms.
5
Tegan
Good social game so far and seems to be playing the middle with strong relationships with both girls and boys. Unfortunately, the edit isn’t showing much of her at this point in time but I have a keen eye on Teegs.
5
Steve W
His personality is very warming and still manages to have a strong, smart exterior.
5
Heath
This BFG has managed to dodge the spotlight even after being named the Lieutenant by Policeman Matt. He has an in with the guys because, well, biceps. And the dad-factor that the other boys lack is a strong asset amongst some of his tribemates and also in the event of a swap. Looking safe for now.
6
Heath
Gentle Giant Heath is such an asset to his tribe at the moment. His height advantage, combined with his non-threatening persona means that I can’t imagine votes coming his way any time soon.
6
Sam
He has great humour and an awkward social game that lures in the girls easy. Non-threat.
6
Benji
Let’s see more Benji please! (To clarify, I’m not actually asking for more of those butt scenes - what is with Australian Survivor and butts?) This guy has the resume, not to mention the pedigree, to be amazing in this game. He’s the least likely of the boys to be targetted and the most likely to keep his options open with people outside of his alliance.
7
Steve W
Commando Steve is an asset to his tribe and like Mat seems to play a central role in unifying the Tribe as a Team. However, he is adamant and vocal about not wanting to vote out Damien which might come to hinder him later in the game if he is perceived as unswayable in his conviction.
7
Heath
I expect tall things from him, oops I mean big, hahahah!
7
Steve W
We haven’t seen much of Commando yet, except that people keep calling him Steve. They’re really pushing the Steve thing. There’s only one Steve on that island for me…
8
Robbie
Despite being identified as part of the boys club alliance, Robbie is still very much an asset to his tribe. He has a softer approach in his people skills than Zach, so I imagine he will be able to protect himself in the tribe as an asset.
8
Brian
Kicking goals in the challenges and sitting well within the tribe.
8
Sharn
This lady seems sharp. I hope her mateship talk was just spin to get the Olympians on side - it’s the right thing to say - but please, turn around and tell me in a confessional that you know how this game is played!
9
Zach
Whilst in the early stages Zach is considered a physical asset to his tribe, he comes off as having an abrasive presence which will have to be kept in check as the tribe goes deeper in the game. Let’s not get too cocky too soon Zach!
9
Paige
She is standing in a strong position with the girls and has some sass. Go get 'em girl, hmm mmm *click-click of the fingers*.
9
Robbie
Which of the Lockys is this? These boys are likely to be in the majority for a bit, and he sits above Zach as just a little less likely to be taken out in a blindside against them (this doesn’t seem like the crowd to target the right-hand-man out of idol fear).
10
Sam
Samuel clearly has great social skills in his tribe, he is forming good friendships and alliances with everyone in his tribe. However, in a tribe with a large proportion of athletes who take value in physicality, Sam needs to show that his smarts will be very useful to his tribe in challenges.
10
Damien
Respect to him playing. I don’t know how long I would be giving him piggy backs though before it got old, hahahah!
10
Zach
Dammit, I don’t want to love Zach but I do. His cheeky chuckle is annoyingly adorable. Please let a Steve/Zach bromance be a thing. On a game note, he’s probably the most at risk if anyone makes a move on the Testicalliance.
11
Lydia
Lydia has a very valuable and unique body type for doing well in challenges. Physically fit and strong, but smaller in size and weight, she is someone I personally would value keeping around as a physical asset in the early stages. However, going for Damien so brutally might be her downfall in a tribe that values honour and integrity.
11
Zach
As soon as they want him gone, the girls will get rid of him. He needs to break away from the boy band.
11
Paige
Paige is like an actual normal person that you might meet somewhere that is not on a reality TV show. This doesn’t bode that well for screen time but I hope it will mean good things for her longevity in the game. The middle is not a bad place to sit with this crowd, and I think that Paige has the game awareness to do this with intention.
12
Brian
I’m not sensing that Brian has the best social game, I think he is switched on to the nature of the game, but I worry he might rub people the wrong way when the strategising inevitability begins to ramp up.
12
Moana
Great play getting Russell out, though now people know you have some sort of power...
12
Sam
So, I had a theory that Sam was actually a mechanic at his local planetarium, but he really blew that up when he started talking about dark matter and writing on a really big blackboard. Anyway, he knew where all the votes were going at the last tribal and I like the way he’s leaning into his lovable dork persona.
13
Sharn
Sharn is coming off as a little on the outs currently, however, she is obviously very switched on and intelligent, she isn’t just going see how the cards fall. I feel no matter what happens Sharn will ensure she has control over her game.
13
Anita
She has a bubbly mum personality. Though who wants to live with their mum? No one!
13
Brian
He hasn’t spoken much but I spotted Brian in the hammock at one stage so I guess that ends his game. I like watching him push people over in challenges. Yay sports!
14
Monika
Monika seems to also be on the outer at this point, but I’m hoping she can play off the fact that people underestimate her and come through with a strong set of outsider numbers to really give her some influence in this game.
14
Tegan
Had a very strong opinion at Tribal, could be her undoing.
14
Damien
Channel Ten is really playing up the hero angle, but to me, the most endearing thing about Damien is how adorably excited he was every time Mr. Texas talked idols. Damien might be protected by some relationship with Mat, who didn’t seem to want to let him go (and, as mentioned, likes his bottom) but I’m worried that he seems isolated by his Idol enthusiasm.
15
Paige
I absolutely love Paige as a player and I love what I’m seeing of her Survivor-fan gameplay. The only thing that concerns me is that during the very first tribal she was vocal about the fact that she *was*, in fact, playing the game when Matt suggested she had no idea what was going on. This can play on people’s minds when flagged so early on, but I have hope for this chick, she’s a fighter!
15
Jenna
A girl that says mate all the time gets annoying, know what I mean mate. Needs to latch on to a group fast.
15
Fenella
Fenella is so cool and spunky! I feel like policeman Matt’s little rant might galvanise ‘the ladies’, as he called them, to get together, and I’m a bit worried that Fenella could be identified as the glue holding some of said ladies together, whilst being expendable in challenges. I’m actually looking at Benji as the likeliest to spearhead that move - and feeling torn between my affection for them both. Please don’t fight guys! I want you to get along!
16
Jenna
Jenna seems to be a little too loosely in the middle within her tribe. Whilst she is close with both the boys and girls, I’m not sure she is really considered as being a core member in either group, this might soon be a problem in her game.
16
Jackie
She needs some good cards to land in her favour.
16
Shonee
As much as she’s playing up the ‘my occupation is being married to someone with an occupation’ thing, I feel like Shonee wouldn’t blink at making some moves if a savvy player led her down a snakey path (Fenella? Paige? Benji?). I have the same hopes for her that I had for Libby. Also: ‘We just did’. Savage. Loved it.
17
Damien
Look I hate to say it, but there is no denying Damien has some physical limitations in terms of getting through certain parts of challenges quickly, this is a big consideration in the early stages of the game, making him at risk of elimination. However, I’m not too worried for him yet, because through his social game, he is building strong alliances that are loyal to standing by him, giving him protection should Champions go to tribal.
17
Sharn
Will just be a follower and her game will be boring and predictable. May surprise me, but I doubt it.
17
Monika
I have to address the fact that Monika seems to have a Snapchat filter on her face in every scene. How is any human that glowy all of the time? We get a close-up of Monika’s face every time social skills are mentioned, so she may be more in with the crowd than we’ve seen, but so far we’ve only seen a lot of blank and vaguely uncomfortable (though stunningly glowy) faces from Monika as she tries to not look grossed-out by Hantz.
18
Shonee
Shonee has found herself in a strong alliance with the girls, however, if seen to be a weaker member of the tribe around camp and in challenges, her alliance isn’t big enough to protect her and she might find her name being thrown around pretty soon.
18
Shonee
I feel like the girls' whole game will combust at some stage, hopefully she stays around.
18
Shane
Shane's spot seems to be as the producers' facilitator to lead into back-story packages. Her vote was actually crucial to taking out Russell (assuming she was one of the four to vote him initially), yet we still haven’t seen any game from Shane. She’s sneaking in above Jackie here only because she’s singing the mateship song that might ingratiate her with this tribe for another vote or so.
19
Anita
Anita, though sweet as pie, has a personality that could be considered quite abrasive to live with day to day. Though she, Shonee and Fenella seem to have a strong bond and a loyal alliance at this point, she may be hard to protect if a “keep the tribe strong” vote occurs next week.
19
Robbie
If he wins, I will eat dog s**t, ahahhahaha!
19
Jackie
I’m sure this is a burning question for many, so I Googled it - the speed-cubing record is actually 4.22 secs. So maybe Jackie should have gone for ‘ex-speed-cubing champion’, like how Ziggy was an ex-Olympian? Unfortunately, on account of a combination of poker player curse and poor eye contact, I find it hard to see Jackie going deep. Prove me wrong Jackie!
20
Steve K
Steve K, the obvious boot. This guy is in trouble, however, he shows a great willingness to work with any alliance, I would be keeping him around a little longer to help strengthen an alliance's majority. Also, I think he’s great TV and just hope he doesn’t go too soon.
20
Lydia
Wildcard... Unsure.
20
Steve K
Sneaky, sneaky! Nestled in amongst the bro butts is a decent spot for Stevie. Hopefully by now the tribe is just totally desensitised to his blatant idol hunting, and he’ll have a sort of free reign to do outrageous things and just be ‘being Steve’. Hang in there Steve, you’re my sweeps pick!
21
Jackie
I think Jackie coming under fire during the Russell vote won’t be good for her game. Not considered a physical asset and also being left on the outs, will be hard to come back from. I just hope she doesn’t let paranoia and insecurity impact her social game, which is the only thing she has left to recenter her in the group.
21
Steve K
Just too easy to pick next boot. Unless someone cooks their game like the copper Matt.
21
Anita
Tara, is that you?! If Anita makes it to the merge she’s in good shape for runner-up, but I worry for her survival if the Contenders go on a losing streak.
22
Shane
I love Shane as a person, but I worry for her position in the game. She doesn’t seem willing to play overly strategically, however, athletically she is relatively limited in what she has been bringing to the tribe. A lovely lady, but I’m worried for her.
22
Shane
She's old, ahahah!
22
Jenna
Jenna is the walking wounded, and the Contenders are likely to see a bit of Tribal before a swap. If her social skills aren’t there to save her (and I’m not sure who’s in her corner right now), an injury might give the tribe an easy reason to take her out.
